Candle Care

Find tips and advice to help you care for your Stone Age London candles.

Burning tips

  • Regular-size candles normally burn for around 45–50 hours.
  • We use wooden, cotton and linen wicks.
  • To get the most out of your candle, burn it until the entire surface of the wax melts.
  • To preserve the fragrance, do not burn your candle for more than 3 hours at a time during the first third of its life, or more than 1 hour at a time during the remainder.

Wick care

  • If the wick needs centring, which is more common with cotton wicks, gently readjust it to the correct position while the wax is still molten. Allow the candle to solidify before relighting.
  • All our wicks promote self-trimming. However, if any black smoke appears, trim the tip of the wick. It should be clean and no longer than 5 mm at all times.

Candle safety

  • Do not leave a burning candle unattended. Do not place it in a draught. Keep it away from children, curtains and pets.
  • If you burn more than one candle at a time, leave a safe distance of at least 10 cm between the vessels.
  • Always protect the table or surface on which the candle rests, for example with a stone slate, wooden plate or ceramic plate.
  • Do not burn your candle all the way down. Always leave at least 5 mm of unmelted wax at the bottom.

Storage

  • Keep your candle in a dry environment at a moderate temperature, between 15°C and 30°C, away from direct heat or sunlight.
  • Use your candle for the first time within two months of receiving it.

Candle ingredients

The scents

To give our candle fragrances depth and build an olfactory pyramid of top, middle and base notes, we use individual fragrance oils and blends of essential oils.

The waxes

We use plant-based organic waxes, hydrogenated vegetable oils, and blends of vegetable and mineral waxes.

The wicks

We use two types of wick: wooden wicks and cotton wicks interwoven with linen thread, which promotes self-trimming and minimises afterglow and smoke.

The vessels

Our vessels are individually handcrafted by expert potter Jessica Perry, owner of Pots by JP. The ceramics are then fired three times in the kiln to ensure their fire and heat safety. The abstract, coin-like emblem is our logo, hand-painted in gold.
